Burwell
House.....Frequently Asked Questions,
What is Burwell House?
Burwell House is a non-profit making residential centre owned by
Cambridgeshire County Council. The property dates back to the late
18th Century and has been extensively adapted to accommodate both
adults and children whilst still maintaining the building's original
character. The centre has been running residential courses for
children for nearly 40 years and has gained an enviable reputation
in this field.
What Facilities are at Burwell House?
In the main house there ate large comfortable rooms where teaching
sessions take place. There are 11 bedrooms ranging from small 1 -2
bedded rooms to larger dormitory style rooms. There is also a fully
equipped TV studio, craft studio and dark room. We have 3 acres of
landscaped gardens which are used extensively on courses. We have a
16 seater minibus fitted with seatbelts.
Will we have the house to ourselves?
Our policy at Burwell House is only to ever have one school in
residence at a time. This is why our price per child changes
depending on the number of children attending. We can accommodate up
to 60 residents (including school staff).
Will we have to organise activities?
A qualified teacher from Burwell House will be assigned to your
course and they will be on duty with the group from 9am until after
dinner each evening. Our staff will be responsible for leading the
teaching sessions and school staff will be expected to take on a
supportive role. At times, it may be necessary to divide the
children into smaller work groups when school staff would be
expected to take on a leading role.
What activities do you offer?
Subject areas offered include History, Geography, Environmental
Science, Art, Drama, Media Studies, Citizenship and PSHE. Burwell
House is situated in the village of Burwell and the village and
local area are both rich resources for study.
What meals are provided?
Groups are provided with breakfast and two cooked meals a day. Group
leaders are asked to choose meals from a selection provided prior to
arrival. Meals are served family-style. Special diets can be catered
for, with sufficient notice.
